At base physical level we are always on a spiritual journey from birth to death . The moment spirit (ie life ) goes away from our body , we are dead and people perform funerals for us .
When we talk of spiritual advancement or progress which established Gods/sons of God / messenger of God / Saints /monks may have accomplished ,indeed spiritual life is very long journey that ends only with death of the seeker and that which other claim to be great spiritual journey (reaching the goal) . Self-aggrandizing publicity machine with vested interests can not be allowed to proclaim that the goal is accomplished & spiritual journey is finished.
The seeker always have to approach spiritual journey as a never ending journey . Or else he/she can set some milestones as a measure of spiritual progress which suits his / her temperaments /preferences/situation/circumstances in his/her life .
Also agree that focused ,sharp , dedicated , intelligent seeker can accomplish a lot in shorter time . But that lot of advancement too can be very little when viewed in reference to the repository of knowledge God has /
