Some people find the NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) approach to be useful.

e.g. take the visual image of the guy (yourself) who never gets what he wants and cannot afford to buy these things. Make that image fade to grey and become smaller - in other words, it becomes less dominant. Move it to the left of your visual field, because most people's visual timeline has the past on the left and the future on the right.

Then create a new visual image of yourself as the guy who always get what he wants and has the money to pay for it. Have this image coming in from the right (your future) to fill your field of vision. Ramp up the colours so this image is large and bright and vivid. Maybe add sound effects such as a loud fanfare.

The idea is that the your old self-image becomes small and insignificant while your new self-image becomes large and dominant.

One further point - people tend to be visual, auditory and kinesthetic, but usually one will dominate. Visual people tend to learn best through seeing. Auditory people learn best through hearing. Kinesthetic people learn best through feeling or sensation - ie through actually doing something.

The above example I gave was obviously visual, but if you are maybe more kinesthetic then do something similar but working with feelings and sensations. So tone down the old feelings of inadequacy or lack of motivation and move them to the left while bringing in new feelings of achievement and success from the right, exaggerating those feelings.

Some people report very good results using NLP.

Peace

I think this might be the source of my lack of motivation, since I lack the conviction of actually achieving or ever getting anything worthwile. I had a meager upbringing and can't remember ever getting anything I really wanted from my parents, so maybe this is a feeling that has persisted since then.

I gotta say trying to change my beliefs revolving this issue feels like an uphill battle. Somehow I have to dethrone this guy altogether and not simply fight my beliefs against his. Any ideas?

He's right. You will never "get" it. Even if you obtained it, it won't make you happy.

Gee, I hesitated posting because even tho i feel like the master of changing the subconscious mind, ha ...
that's just 'me' ...how can i expect anyone else to do what I did or do?

I can just put in my 2 cents.
You must BELIEVE differently, in your gut you must KNOW whatever ever it is.
I was like many - codependent, weak, insecure, angry under the surface ---whatever, parents do to us.

Then, I was revealed the 'truth'....I'm not my personality, gender, name or past. I am a loved child, extension of the Creator of All. Period.
Part and parcel of 'Him'. Given extraordinary powers untapped.
Deserving of all there is in this life and beyond.

I saw like Barbra Streisand On A Clear Day ---all became crystal clear -
the nonsense compared to the truth...was wonderful.

So my subconscious changed to know who I was...ya gotta know who you are...powerful, confident - a creator
and free to be whatever you want.

Me? I wanna be happy all the time -forget the nonsense...and I do, very successfully.

Cuz I know who I am and my subconscious mind is now imprinted with this new clarity....has been for over a decade now.

You’re right. Reality always follows self-image. By that, I mean a collection of beliefs you have about yourself, borne of your upbringing and early-life experiences. You say that you are the guy who will never get it, and never be able to afford anything, and the Universe says “ okay then, you are. “ It then brings you circumstances and experiences to match that belief and self-image.

But I don’t think it’s that hard to change all of that. I think it’s a case of identifying and healing THE CORE BELIEF YOU HAVE ABOUT YOURSELF more than anything. Once you know that, then you can work on imprinting a new belief.

Make a list of your beliefs and make it quite long. What do you believe about yourself? About money? About being provided for? About being able to do things? About life in general? Once you have finished your list, read it through a few times, and you will begin to see a ‘theme’ emerging. That theme, is your core limiting belief. (There is another thread in this section about just that).

And once you know that belief, you can then start to work on it. You can do this by repetition of a new and positive belief many times a day. Aim for 1000 times a day for 100 days. Challenge yourself to join this ‘100-day club’ and tick off the days on a calendar. It sounds like a lot, but you think maybe up to 100k thoughts a day anyway, and most of them are either negative or reactive. Why not consciously channel them towards something positive?

In my experience, I have found that repetition of a new belief generates a kind of ‘psychic momentum’ in which developments and meaningful coincidences (synchronicities) relating to your new thought, start to arise. The more your practice your mind power technique or new belief, the deeper and more significant these synchronicities then become. They build upon each other, creating events and favourable incidents which ‘help’ you to believe your new belief.

Nothing too much happens for the first couple of days, because your mind is still registering the new belief. But after about 3-4 days, I find that there is a tipping point moment, at which 51% of your thinking is now positive, and this is where you start to attract the new reality. You will see, hear or experience something to make you think “ aha, it’s working. My new thought is something to attract a better reality. I need to keep this going. “

I also find that once you reach this tipping point moment, the take-up, or subconscious registering of your new thought becomes easier because you’re also ‘attracting’ new and similar positive thoughts. It’s as if the might of the Universe is trying to help you.

I must say here that this is down to my own subjective experience. Others may disagree and that’s fine, but I have had this experience quite a few times now. What you can do is to have a practice with thoughtforming in this way, and repeat an ‘easy’ positive thought for say, 2 weeks, to see what happens. Then work on a thought that’s a bit ‘harder’ to give you some confidence. Once you have had this practice, then you can work on the core belief you have about yourself.

If we want fundamental shifts in our life, then we have to change ourselves fundamentally, and what better way to do this, than to change the deepest-held negative belief you hold about yourself. It doesn’t have to be hard, but it does require some gentle persistence on your part, and once you get into the habit, then it becomes more and more easy.
