The air is looking cleaner.
The air is looking cleaner. I just noticed this in the last few weeks. The air is looking decidedly cleaner. With the shut down of coal powered plants and more electric cars and less people heating their homes with real fires I think it must be making a difference. Sure, the air is full of CO2 but at least there is less smokiness!

INAVALAN.
Many thanks for those charts. They give us a good idea at what is happening in this world.
I just don’t know why Australia is not using solar power a lot more as we get sunshine just about every day of the year!

All that spare desert space, they could be exporting it like the Saudis do with the oil, you lot would be living like lords.Wonder if it will go through a large optic fibre to places like the UK in winter?---thought I would have a quick search to see if it is being done, but can't find any that export via a fibre optic cable, only by battery or electric cables----surely bring it via a fibre optic would be better as I know one problem is the cost and I think energy loss in long electric cables. I did read how solar cables can be used to concentrate the effect without having to have standard panels, or a lot of them eg you have one large concentrating mirror that focuses the light through a cable onto a small panel---much cheaper too that by the sound of it.

From the National Grid in the UK:
Quote:
2020 marked the first year in the UK’s history that electricity came predominantly from renewable energy, with 43% of our power coming from a mix of wind, solar, bioenergy and hydroelectric sources.

It also says that a lot of Britain's energy comes from burning natural gas - which does emit CO2 but not smoke. If you add to that fact that houses don't burn real fires to heat themselves any more you end up with much a less smoky environment. I was saying the air *looks* cleaner....

What will replace coal-fired power plants?
Years of analysis have made it clear that replacing most of the coal plants in the United States with a mix of solar panels, wind turbines and lithium-ion batteries can save billions of dollars and prevent air pollution while fighting climate change.

Another quote....

Some countries just have it easy, such as Norway...
But not every country can do that. In my country (Netherlands) there's a lot of people demanding we generate more renewable energy, but land use wise it is a pipe dream to get the desired targets without greatly damaging the scenery of the landscape and taking up a lot of space. I hope we built some nuclear plants and put solar panels on the roofs of all those industry and distribution centres. They cover quite a bit of space. Right now I'm seeing new solar parks popping up a few kilometers away from those distribution centres, lol... They may say ''it's not safe'', well then invest in making the roofs save and steady to carry them. Rather this than yet another field getting all covered with panels..
