We signed up for a new web host when we put up this new version of the site yesterday. The old site was hosted on Easyspace in the UK and they were a real pain to deal with because you had to pay international long distance rates and they only answered phones during business hours and the 8 hour time difference meant you could only reach them in the early morning. Now they've told us that they can't even give us a backup of the data that they lost. Sometimes data corruption is unavoidable but they've just been really difficult so we're excited to have switched to a managed VPS located in the US. This new server has 24/7/365 telephone/chat/email assistance and they do weekly backups. And the price is about the same as the other one.

That's a shame about the lost data.

Initially, I wondered if SF had collapsed under it's own weight but then considered the Giant that is facebook which certainly experiences problems and goes off line too.
I think on balance, despite what has been apparently lost we should be thankful that SF survives :)

In my opinion, the BIG loss are all the excellent postings of Calentiriel.

Regardless of what is lost, I am just really happy the site has come back. We are a community and I'm sure we will pull through this.

Dear Admin,
thank you so much for what you have done to get things back and running. I am afraid that I panic and I thought that the Forums was lost forever and that would have been a real, real tragic disaster.
It is such a wonderful site, such a wonderful community with so much love here. We are so lucky to have it and must all thank Matt for starting it and building it.
It is a shame that such a lot was lost - but don't worry things will soon be back and running as it was. You will be guided. I am sure that everyone will be able to restore or bring back some of the information and get the ball rolling again - get the discussions running again.
We all have to pull together.
Thank you once again.
God Bless you all, Staff and community.
In Peace, Love and Light

I was so lost without my new family!! I am sad that so much great information was lost but like others have said it is just such a real blessing that SF is back up and running. I dont know about the rest of you but I prayed for SF to return. It is such a wonderfully loving Board and the friends I have made have been invaluable.
I had a young woman PM me the day SF went offline in real need of guidance and all I can do is pray that she returns to the board...

HI,
I really missed this forum; I just now registered again; i am only worried about the previlages i had with respect to the number of posts and threads of mine posted earlier.
Can something be done?
Thanks
Sunny

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone dedededede.... lol. It's really strange to see what it all looked like 3 years ago.
I would just like to remind people that sometimes a 'loss' is really a blessing that we haven't come to appreciate yet.
