Dealing With Empathy

Hi All!

Wondering how other empaths out there deal with protecting themselves without totally blocking out their empathy. I am pretty good at preparing/protecting myself when I venture out from home, but lately I seem to be getting affected by energies from others even while I am here in my haven - and I don't know where it is coming from so it is a little harder to protect myself.

We smudge the house regularly... and that seems to work to keep the energy in the house good, but it doesn't seem to block out emotion from outside. Not sure if maybe this is just getting stronger or developing into other forms of intuition, but calling it "annoying" is putting it lightly since being subject to other people's emotions even when I am at home feels a bit violating to me, especially the times when I have trouble shaking it/breaking the connection and when the source is unknown.

I know this isn't a malicious thing, it's just me picking up on other people's stray stuff... but I don't want or need their stuff. I have been dealing with it for long enough that when I start to feel sad/angry/stressed I always ask "what is making me feel like this" to determine if it is mine or not... and 99% of the time, there is absolutely no reason for it. I really don't want to be drained by other people's negative energy or have their issues manifest in my life either because of those feelings.

Any ideas for how to protect myself? Any ideas about how to more quickly break a bad connection?

Hi,

Because of the Great Shift, protection is no longer the concern it once was. The best protection is to "just be light". To have authentic kindness for those who are troubled.

In truth, there are no "bad connections" but there are "unproductive connections". My experience is that being kind and ignoring the triggers that upset the self will allow you to move gracefully with all those who are unbalanced.

The world is filled with unbalanced humans. Balance the self and all will be well.

I hope that my thoughts on this will be helpful.

I know,at the moment the empathic connection is harder,I've been picking lots of ''unwanted'' emotions lately.
Well,shine from the inside,be a light,smile,laugh and don't forget that it's not your emotions so even if you feel it you can choose to not be affect in a bad way by them,I know ''easier said than done''.
You can't change to receive it or not,you receive it,but you can choose in wich way it will affect you :)

Thanks! Yes, it has been harder lately. What works best for you guys to help rebound? So far all I've got to work with is carbs and music. Music is ok, carbs can lead to other problems. I would like to save those for my OWN emotional eating needs, not other people's. :/

I could give myself Reiki, but usually I'm not in the mood when somebody's garbage is running through me. Grounding helps, but then I'm drained. Eeeek! Not sure how to be a light when overwhelmed with that - how do you do that? Is it a visualization? Meditation?

I am nearly 49 years old and I have never been able to shut it off.

So I have my own sactuary where I go to do what I need to in order to center, focus, and recharge.

Those activities vary--sometimes I do Yoga, meditate, use affirmations, crawl into bed with a good book, or even turn up the music and paint (while drinking a good dark beer ).

Find the things that recharge your batteries and make sure you (also) find time to do them!

I listen mainly to music ,good groovy,or celtic music(it remind me good memories).If I'm really bad I go and see my little sister or friends or family.If you are more pet you can go to them and play with them,you can also read a good book,sing,dance,do whatever free your mind :)

Fish Empathetic people are special people!

What haven't I tried???
reiki, visualizations, prayer, screaming, meditation, music, water therapy, swimming, running, hiking, crying, laughter - especially with others, listening to my teacher, yoga, chocolate, more chocolate, more chocolate...

I don't agree that with the post about 2012 that we don't need protection anymore. Not true. There is no magic broom that sweeps away everyone's rubbish. What has happened though is an opportunity for those who desire enlightenment, to accelerate their growth.

My teacher, Sri Vasudeva's advice is to be inspired by the light in everyone rather than challenged by their darkness.

Also to practice how to be a better observer - as in meditation so in ordinary life - not owning everything that comes into your field of consciousness. And when it does transform it into positive energy or else try to get rid of it in some way that works for you.

We need an Empaths Annonymous... a 12 step group to deal with the telepathic abilities that are coming into our biological evolution for support. And we need to learn how to be more loving so that when we do bond, it's in a nice way, not sharing garbage.

Firstly. Mental house keeping
Every day envision breaking all negative spiritual connections that have formed to you Ie negative to you. Simple affirmation.

Every day envisage spiritually vacuuming your house or establsh wards or barriers around your house by envisioning them Having pushed out the **** that floats in each day

You clean your.teeth you shower you brush your hair you washyour cloths They too are house keeping routines to prevent contamination and to have an environment that is positive to your health

Dont stop just with the physical We are energy beings And some of us need energy house keeping routines cause we sense more

Point. Brushing your teeth once does not stop fillings. Its every day. All the above is. 5 to 10 minutes when you wake up Or before go to sleep

A little often think of it as establishing an immune system

As to peace and light and dont worry your protected. That sort of advice is like the parents who have perfect kids and tell you. You should ask them kindly and with love and light that is all that is needed. Sorry guys most of us live in the real world and that just does not get the job done.

I wonder how people "pick up" this energy from others. Is it by connecting to it through the mind by thinking certain thoughts? Or is it by being at the appropriate distance physically when the energy can get attracted to you...?

If it's mental, then one would have to stop thinking and get distracted maybe by watching something. (but first acknowledging that it's nor your feelings or your problem so you don't try to own it)

If it's physical, perhaps taking a drive may help...

Im not sure i can answer this .not because i dont know the answer but because i do what i have always done naturaly i am a healer so i have empathy for those i heal, i am a councellor so i have empathy throuh doing that, so i just act myself, i remember going to personal therepy which u have to do while training in councelling,and one trainer told me i cant teach you anything in fact you could teach me, off i went to another therepist she said how do u do it,i asked what and she said you dont take on boared anybody elses feelings and troubles, i cant tell you what i do, but i have always been this way ,
