I am not sure for meditating, sounds too distracting for me. However, it does wonders for me when I am practicing yoga. Yoga does require a lot of focus however, the music eases the intensity and allows me to flow and relax. Yes, electronic house type music.

I've meditated to house and techno. It is quite effective and can put you in a trance

There's a yoga studio that I've been meaning to check out that offers electronic music yoga classes. Everybody wears neon and is given glowsticks!

This thread strongly made me think about those ancient yogis from long time ago, who invented meditation.
I think they meditated without any aid.

I know people meditate with natural sounds like waterfalls, the wind or singing birds.

Find your peace and happiness in meditation your way.
Maybe it's with techno and house music.

You have all the time in the world. Experiment as much as you like.

Sorry, I thought meditation was about finding inner-peace?

I have used youtube/ sea shore/ wave clips but I'd be the first to admit it probably isn't strictly meditation, although I do find it calming.

I'm unsure how "Metalica" is calming?

Listening to music has long been known to have be beneficial effects (why many make money out of it :-D but where does listening to music for pleasure end and med begin?

There is nothing what so ever wrong with listening to music for pleasure (IMO), there is a lot right with it.

I would not recommened meditating to music.

One of the points of meditation is to realize that you need no THING to be happy.

Why rely on music to do something that you need to be able to do at all times?

Just my two cents.

LOL, very true. I suppose it's what someone hopes to get from meditation. People do it for different things, sometimes to purge something to reach inner peace.

Meditation needs no external aids. If something distracts meditation just won't get off the ground, surely. Getting into a foot-tapping hypnotic trance is something quite different! It sort of borders on the effect of ecstatic dancing as incited by shamans.

I'm glad I found this thread, as I'm not the only one it seems.

I don't meditate to music, but there's something very calming and spiritual about Industrial EBM for me.

I'm a 'rivethead' - pure and simple. lol
